The Carolina Hurricanes put an end to a three game losing streak as they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets, 3-2 on Sunday evening at the Nationwide Arena.
Justin Faulk, Ron Hainsey, and Brad Malone each chipped in with a goal, all of them in the second period for Carolina.
The Jackets took a 1-0 lead with less than a second left in the first period. It was another powerplay tally which continues to plague the Hurricanes penalty kill unit in recent games. But the Canes fought back in the next period.
Faulk started the scoring for the visitors with a powerplay goal of his own, 8:11 into the second. The marker extended the defenseman's team leading point total to 45, (14G 31A).
Hainsey would give the team a 2-1 lead just 1:30 later, his second of the season.
Scott Hartnell, who has killed the Hurricanes all season long, tied the score but Malone notched the game-winner shortly afterward to close out the scoring.
The Blue Jackets tried as they might in the third but could not get another shot past Anton Khudobin, who earned his eighth win of the season.
Next up for the Canes will be a visit from the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.
Game Notes:
- Faulk led all skaters with 29:57 of ice time, this the second of back-to-back games for the all star. He had four shots on goal, one hit, and one blocked shot to go with his goal.
- The team outshot the Jackets, 27- 24 and were led by Eric Staal with five.
- The Jackets tried to out-muscle the Canes again and outhit them 34-13 for the game.
