Game Notes
- After a 4-1 Canes win last night over the Blue Jackets, both teams packed it up and headed to Columbus, where they'll do it all over again. At 41 points, the Canes can make it to hockey .500 in game 43 with a win tonight.
- Jordan Staal continued to make his presence felt on offense, scoring the first goal of the evening, and Elias Lindholm (twice) and Chris Terry broke scoring slumps by finding the back of the net. Brandon Dubinsky was the lone goal-scorer for Columbus.
- Heading into tonight's game, there are no reported changes to the roster. Victor Rask remains a game-time decision, and as of noon the team has not heard from the NHL Department of Player Safety as to any supplemental discipline levied to Brad Malone for his hit on Nick Foligno. Cam Ward gets the call for a consecutive start in net. Here's why:
#Canes going back to Cam Ward in net. He's stopped 61 of his last 63 shots faced (.968 save%), hasn't surrendered 5-on-5 goal in 2 starts.

- Nine Canes players found the scoresheet last night. Jordan Staal has four points (2g, 2a) in his last two games. Noah Hanifin has assists in each of his last two games. With two assists last night, Kris Versteeg is now one point shy of 300 career NHL points.
- Nick Foligno will not be back in the lineup tonight for the Blue Jackets; he has been placed on injured reserve. Kerby Rychel has been recalled from AHL Lake Erie. For those who keep track of such things, Rychel has three assists this season but has never scored a goal in his 16-game NHL career. Joonas Korpisalo will likely get the start in net tonight.
