A late second period goal from Jordan Staal cushions Carolina’s lead, but Dustin Byfuglien didn't like it.

A late second period powerplay didn’t render the results that the Carolina Hurricanes wanted, but Jordan Staal was right on the spot as the period expired and gave the ‘Canes a 3-1 lead on opening night.

It’s Staal’s first goal of the season. Viktor Stalberg was tied up with Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien in front, which created space for Staal to walk in front and snipe it short side on Connor Hellebuyck. Byfuglien wanted a call, but none was provided. He didn't like that.

Bryan Bickell supplied a dynamite screen in front, just like he did on Carolina’s second goal.
