The Carolina Hurricanes’ training camp roster will be significantly lighter for tomorrow’s game against the Washington Capitals after fourteen players were released from camp and assigned to various other teams or, in one case, released outright from a PTO.

Yesterday, the Canes announced that Brendan Woods, Brody Sutter, Keegan Lowe, Matt Tennyson and Michael Leighton would be assigned to the Charlotte Checkers pending waivers. All five cleared waivers, and will be joined in Checkers camp by goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, forwards Andrew Poturalski and Valentin Zykov, and defensemen Dennis Robertson and Jake Chelios.

In addition, 2016 first-round draft picks Jake Bean (Calgary, WHL) and Julien Gauthier (Val d’Or, QMJHL) have been reassigned to their junior clubs; forward Aleksi Saarela has been assigned to Lukko, his club in the Finnish Liiga; and forward Raffi Torres has been released from his professional tryout.

Thirty-two players remain in Canes’ camp, including defensemen Tyler Ganly (injured), Haydn Fleury, Trevor Carrick and Roland McKeown, and forwards Derek Ryan, Patrick Brown, Sergey Tolchinsky, Lucas Wallmark, Warren Foegele and Andrew Miller (injured). The Canes have a minimum of nine more roster cuts to make before the roster deadline next Tuesday, and some of these players will likely get one final chance to make an impression on the coaching staff in tomorrow’s preseason finale against the Capitals at PNC Arena.

The release from the team is below.
