Game Notes
- Forward Jeff Skinner has stormed out of the gates hot as he is tied for ninth in the league in goals (5) and tied for third in the league in points (11). Skinner tallied 2 points in Sunday night's loss to the Flyers, marking his fourth multi-point game of the season.
- Center Victor Rask now has points in eight straight games (4g, 6a). Rask's eight-game point streak is the second longest to start a season in franchise history. His 10 points is second on the team to linemate Skinner.
- The Skinner-Rask-Stempniak line is tied for the second most productive line in the NHL with a combined 27 points in the young season, behind only the Flyers' combination of Claude Giroux, Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds with 29.
- Center Jordan Staal ranks just second in the NHL in faceoff-win percentage (68.6%) among players who have taken more than 100 faceoffs. Additionally, the Hurricanes are second in the league in team faceoff percentage (56.6%) winning 252 of 445 draws thus far.
- Forward Martin Frk was placed on waivers Monday morning after being claimed off of waivers from Detroit on October 8th. If he is unclaimed by noon today, Frk will be assigned to the Charlotte Checkers today.
-
Cam Ward is 15-7-2 with a 2.39 GAA and one shutout in 25 career appearances against Ottawa. Eddie Lack is 0-2-1 with a 3.39 GAA in just 3 career appearances against Ottawa.
All indications point to Eddie Lack getting the nod tonight. Never mind: - Second year defensemen Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin lead the Hurricanes with 16 blocked shots each through eight games this season.
- The Hurricanes have walked away with points in 20 of their last 25 games against Ottawa. In that span, Carolina has compiled an impressive record of 16-5-4.
- Carolina's first matchup against Ottawa last year was marked by a memorable game tying Jeff Skinner goal with just 3.3 seconds left in the third. Jordan Staal would beat Craig Anderson in OT to pick up a big two points in early November.
- Speaking of Anderson, he was named the NHL's first star of the week after an emotional shutout of the Oilers on Sunday, a game he played in at the urging of his wife who was diagnosed with cancer last week. Good luck watching this without a box of tissues nearby:
