Game Notes

  • This is the second of three meetings between the Canes and Red Wings this season. Detroit took round one 4-2 at Joe Louis Arena, and Carolina will host the remaining two matchups, starting tonight.
  • Klas Dahlbeck has rejoined the big club in Raleigh after a six-game conditioning stint with the Checkers. He notched one assist with Charlotte.
  • Carolina will be shooting for 10 consecutive home games with at least a point earned. They are coming off of a shootout win over Buffalo two nights ago. During the current nine-game point streak, the Hurricanes have outscored opponents 28-16.
  • Speaking of shootouts, the Red Wings lead the League with four shootout wins.
  • The two teams are separated by just one point in the standings, but Detroit can move within two points of a playoff spot with a win tonight (would have 35 points—Boston [3rd in ATL] has 37). Carolina would move to six points removed from a postseason berth with a win, with their residence in the scorching hot Metropolitan Division keeping them further behind.
  • The Red Wings won their first game in five attempts on Saturday night in their victory over the Anaheim Ducks. They were able to close out a disheartening homestand with a strong performance in front of the Detroit faithful. Tomas Tatar earned his first career hat trick in the game.
  • Carolina’s Jordan Staal needs three assists to reach the 100-helper plateau with his current team. He has 225 over his career.
  • The Hurricanes will be wearing their black alternate uniforms tonight. If you’re superstitious, the dark jerseys are 3-0 so far this season.
  • Tonight marks the last opportunity to donate to the Hurricanes toy drive. You can receive a “buy one, get one” ticket voucher for a new toy donation.
