Update 8:45 p.m.: Tonight’s game has been postponed. Although the compressor issue was fixed, the ice was not able to cool down to the appropriate temperature to get the game in under the NHL’s 22-hour rule given that the Red Wings play the Lightning at 7:30 tomorrow night in Tampa. Information on a rescheduled game will be announced at a later date.

The Carolina Hurricanes’ home game against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday was delayed by a faulty compressor that caused issues with the playing surface at PNC Arena.
The issue was first reported by the Detroit Free Press’ Helene St. James and was confirmed by Canes Country’s Jamie Kellner. The ice issue could put the game’s start in jeopardy, as the Wings skate tomorrow night at the Tampa Bay Lightning and will not be able to wait all night for the issue to be repaired depending on how long it takes.
Canes defenseman Ron Hainsey told FS Carolinas that the team had been informed that the delay will last “at least an hour” but do not have a definitive time when they will be allowed to take the ice.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
