The Carolina Hurricanes received bad news today when it was revealed that defenseman Justin Faulk will be out of the line-up for the near future.
Per a team announcement, Faulk suffered a lower body injury during the game against the Boston Bruins on Dec. 23, though it was not apparent (at least not to fans in attendance) at the time. Not only did he finish the game, but Faulk was instrumental in Friday’s comeback, notching a third period goal to tie the game and assisting on the overtime game-winner.
Faulk has seven points (4g, 3a) in his last five games.
Faulk’s status is currently classified as week-to-week. He did not participate in today’s practice, which was the first for the Canes since the holiday break following Friday’s game. In his absence, Ryan Murphy will join the line-up paired with Ron Hainsey. Murphy has played in four games for the Hurricanes this season, his last start on Nov. 10 against the Anaheim Ducks. He recently completed a conditioning stint with the Charlotte Checkers, where he played in seven games.
