The Hurricanes will come out of the holiday break tonight as they visit Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins for the first time this season. They’ll be without Justin Faulk tonight, as it was announced yesterday that the defenseman is week-to-week with a lower body injury suffered against Boston. Here’s how the team lined up earlier this morning in the morning skate:
Jeff Skinner - Victor Rask - Derek Ryan
Brock McGinn - Jordan Staal - Elias Lindholm
Sebastian Aho - Teuvo Teravainen - Lee Stempniak
Joakim Nordstrom - Jay McClement - Viktor Stalberg
Jaccob Slavin - Brett Pesce
Ron Hainsey - Ryan Murphy
Noah Hanifin - Matt Tennyson
Cam Ward
Eddie Lack
Injuries and Scratches: Justin Faulk (lower-body), Bryan Bickell (IR multiple sclerosis), Andrej Nestrasil (healthy), Klas Dahlbeck (healthy)
On the other side of the ice, the Hurricanes will face off against a Penguins team that has been absolutely decimated on the blue line. Kris Letang and Trevor Daley have been out for a while now. Olli Maatta missed last night’s game with an illness. Last night, former Hurricane draft pick Brian Dumoulin took a puck to the face, resulting in a broken jaw.
It’s expected that Maatta will draw back into the lineup to replace Dumoulin. Since the Penguins played last night, they did not have a morning skate today. Here’s how they lined up last night, but with Maatta in for Dumoulin and Murray starting instead of Fleury, who went last night.
Conor Sheary - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
Chris Kunitz - Evgeni Malkin - Patric Hornqvist
Carl Hagelin - Nick Bonino - Phil Kessel
Scott Wilson - Matt Cullen - Eric Fehr
Olli Maatta - Justin Schultz
Ian Cole - Chad Ruhwedel
Derrick Pouliot - Steve Oleksy
Matt Murray
Marc-Andre Fleury
Injuries and Scratches: Trevor Daley (upper-body), Kris Letang (IR lower-body), Brian Dumoulin (broken jaw), Tom Kuhnhackl (healthy)
