The Carolina Hurricanes released their 2016-17 schedule this afternoon and as we all knew, the team will start out on the road.

The first home game for the Canes will be on October 28 against the New York Rangers.

The Canes start out the season in Winnipeg on October 13, then will travel west as they battle Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.

Before their home opener, they then travel to Philadelphia and Detroit to complete the six game swing.

The good news is that Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary did not make the playoffs last year and they are not considered among the league's elite.  The bad news is that the Canes have a history of struggling on these west coast roadies.

The schedule includes 16 back-to-backs, the exact same number as last season.

In other news, Freddie Andersen was acquired by Toronto from Anaheim and was subsequently signed for $25 million over five years.  That's a big commitment and most assuredly more than the Canes would want to go.

There is a lot of noise out there concerning other available goalies.  For supposedly being a "buyer's market", the prices seem high.
