Game Notes

  • The Hurricanes will look to extend their 11-game home point streak with their first matchup of 2017. This game is big for both teams as they sit only 2 points apart in the Metro. New Jersey has won both matchups this season with a 4-1 decision on November 6th then a 3-2 shootout victory for the Devils two days later on November 8th.
  • The Canes enter the new year six points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for the final wild card spot, albeit with 3 games in hand. The team has been very successful at home but their road woes have cost the team drastically so far this season. The Canes must keep punching out home wins while waiting for their road form to come around.
  • Justin Faulk practiced on Monday in a no contact jersey and is expected to miss at least the game tonight and possibly more games still. Ryan Murphy and Matt Tennyson will likely fill out the lineup with Klas Dahlbeck in the press box.
  • Cam Ward will get the nod once again against the Devils. He is 12-15-3 with a 2.63 GAA in his career against New Jersey.
  • Eddie Lack was absent from practice while having some further testing on his illness. Bill Peters said that, if needed, the team would recall a goalie from Charlotte before Tuesday’s game. Unfortunately, this means Jorge Alves NHL career will likely begin and end at one appearance.
  • Congratulations are in order to Jaccob Slavin, who will play in his 100th NHL game tonight. In 99 games Slavin has become one of the best defensemen on the Hurricanes, putting up 34 points while leading the team in ice time this season.
  • Teuvo Teravainen has points in four straight games and appears to finally be heating up. Sebastian Aho has points in three straight and combined the two have 39 points in 36 games this season.
  • PNC Arena was extremely friendly to Caniacs in 2016 and here’s to 2017 being even better!
