Coming off a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning on New Year’s Eve, the ‘Canes will kick off the calendar year of 2017 with a divisional contest against a struggling New Jersey Devils team. With Justin Faulk and Elias Lindholm still out of the line-up with various ailments, here’s how the Hurricanes were lined up for today’s morning skate:

Jeff Skinner - Victor Rask - Derek Ryan
Brock McGinn - Jordan Staal - Joakim Nordstrom
Sebastian Aho - Teuvo Teravainen - Lee Stempniak
Andrej Nestrasil - Jay McClement - Viktor Stalberg

Jaccob Slavin - Brett Pesce
Ron Hainsey - Ryan Murphy
Noah Hanifin - Matt Tennyson

Cam Ward
Daniel Altshuller

Injuries and Scratches: Bryan Bickell (multiple sclerosis), Justin Faulk (lower-body), Elias Lindholm (lower-body), Klas Dahlbeck (healthy), Eddie Lack (concussion)

The Devils played last night, earning a 3-0 victory over the Boston Bruins. It’s possible that they may shuffle the deck a little bit against a different opponent, but here’s what the Bruins saw from them last night:

Mike Cammalleri - Adam Henrique - Kyle Palmieri
Taylor Hall - Sergey Kalinin - P.A. Parenteau
Miles Wood - Pavel Zacha - Nick Lappin
Beau Bennett - Devante Smith-Pelly - Luke Gazdic

Andy Greene - Ben Lovejoy
Kyle Quincey - Damon Severson
Jon Merrill - Steve Santini

Cory Schneider
Keith Kinkaid

Schneider went in net in the shutout effort yesterday, so it seems likely that head coach John Hynes will turn to him again this evening. Schneider had been mired in a slump of late, so his performance last night was certainly an encouraging sign for New Jersey.
