Tonight’s matchup against the Jets marks the Hurricanes’ first of four straight on the road against Western Conference opponents. After picking up 3 of the 4 possible points in their two games at home, the team will be looking to make hay on a long road trip that historically marks a slow beginning to the Hurricanes season.

Game Notes

  • The Hurricanes have a leg up on the Jets and former Atlanta Thrashers all time, with a 50-25-10-1 record against the team.
  • Tonight is the first of two meetings against this Jets team, the second coming in March in Raleigh.
  • The Hurricanes have been historically strong in the newly-renamed Bell MTS Place, earning points in 6 of their last 7 games (4-2-1). Last October, the Canes lost in overtime in the opening game of the season after losing a 4-1 third-period lead.
  • Justin Williams leads all Hurricanes in points against Winnipeg, earning 35 in 42 games. The team will need his offensive presence tonight playing in unfamiliar territory for the first time.
  • Forward Jeff Skinner is just one game shy of 500 NHL games played, all in Hurricanes red. Expect him to hit that milestone tonight in Winnipeg.
  • Through two games, the Hurricanes have outshot their opponents 80-54. The franchise hasn’t recorded this many shots on goal through the first two games since the 1987-88 season.
  • Hurricanes special teams have been exceptional against the Jets. The team has scored 10 power play goals in their last 12 games against Winnipeg. During that span, the penalty kill has been very strong, going 21 for 23.

Storm Advisory
