As expected, the Carolina Hurricanes made additional roster cuts today before this week’s season opener against the Minnesota Wild. This time, forwards Phil Di Giuseppe and Lucas Wallmark were sent to the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. Di Giuseppe must clear waivers at noon tomorrow to make the assignment official.
Wallmark finished second on the Checkers with 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists) and Di Giuseppe record 28 points in 40 games. The two forwards join what looks to be a promising offensive attack for the Checkers as the season draws close.
Wallmark and Di Giuseppe being returned to Charlotte, coupled with Jake Bean’s presumed reassignment to his junior club and Lee Stempniak likely being placed on injured reserve, likey indicates that both Janne Kuokkanen and Martin Necas will be on the roster for opening night on Saturday.
