The Carolina Hurricanes are set to play their final game in the month of October today as they host the Anaheim Ducks at PNC Arena.
A night after dominating Maple Leafs on the road, the Hurricanes came home and laid an egg in the third period against the Blues, falling by a score of 2-1.
Carolina will hope that Anaheim will go through the same back-to-back issues that they did. The Ducks beat the Lightning last night in convincing fashion by a final score of 4-1.
The Canes skated briefly on Saturday and did not skate on Sunday ahead of the start, so the line combinations are still up in the air.
Bill Peters did, however, confirm that Scott Darling would get the net against the Ducks tonight.
Teuvo Teravainen, who left Friday’s game with an apparent arm injury after an open-ice collision, did not practice on Saturday but is expected to play tonight pending how he feels after the pregame skate. Additionally, Janne Kuokkanen will enter the lineup and play his first game since October 14 after playing in each of the team’s first three games. Peters did not say who the rookie would replace in the lineup.
Here’s how Carolina lined up against St. Louis. These lines will change as Kuokkanen’s presence will bring one forward out of the fold tonight.
Sebastian Aho - Jordan Staal - Elias Lindholm
Brock McGinn - Victor Rask - Teuvo Teravainen
Jeff Skinner - Derek Ryan - Justin Williams
Joakim Nordstrom - Marcus Kruger - Josh Jooris
Jaccob Slavin - Brett Pesce
Noah Hanifin - Justin Faulk
Haydn Fleury - Trevor van Riemsdyk
Scott Darling
Cam Ward
Scratches: Klas Dahlbeck (healthy), Lee Stempniak (upper-body)
The Ducks have won three of their last four games 2-3-1 on the year and they just beat the Bolts just four days after they came into Raleigh and won 5-1.
Anaheim will be without Ryan Kesler as they have been all season due to the veteran center’s offseason hip surgery. Patrick Eaves was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome and will miss the foreseeable future battling the disease.
Kevin Bieksa may miss a lengthy period of time with a hand injury after throwing a punch reminiscent of a popular superhero in a fight with Radko Gudas.
After missing the entirety of the season due to a wrist injury, Ryan Miller is expected to make his debut for the Ducks after John Gibson’s busy night against Tampa on Saturday. The 37-year-old goalie signed a two-year deal with the team in July.
Here’s how the Ducks will lineup tonight.
