The Hurricanes will look to build on a three game win streak this afternoon as they take on the Maple Leafs in an unusual 2 p.m. matchup honoring the centennial anniversary of the NHL’s first game in 1917.

Game Notes

  • Today’s matchup is the third and final one between the Canes and Leafs this season. The Canes came out victorious in the first matchup in enemy territory, but dropped the November matchup on home ice in regulation.
  • Today will be the first game in a few years without John Forslund on the call on Fox Sports Carolinas:
  • “We’re going to have energy.” - Bill Peters
  • The two teams will faceoff in an unusual 2 P.M. time slot because in celebration of the Toronto Arenas’ first NHL game 100 years ago to the day. This matchup marked the first NHL game ever. The game is being played at 2 P.M. to allow for as many kids as possible to attend on a school night in Toronto.
