Game Notes

  • The Hurricanes will wear their third jerseys today for the eighth time this season. The team is 6-1-0 in their black jerseys in this campaign. Additionally, the team is an outstanding 63-35-9 in their alternate threads all time.
  • Today is the first of three games this week on Fox Sports Southeast. Here are the channel listings where you can find today's game.
  • Today is the second and final time that the Hurricanes will meet the Flames this year. Their first meeting was in Calgary on October 20th in which the Hurricanes walked away with a 4-2 win, their first in the Scotiabank Saddledome since the 2002 season.
  • Eddie Lack, who is the confirmed starter tonight, is an impressive 5-2-0 with a 1.99 GAA and one shutout in six career appearances against Calgary. He earned the win when the Canes visited Calgary in October.
  • Flames forward Kris Versteeg played 63 games with the Hurricanes last season, tallying 33 points before being traded to the Kings leading up to the trade deadline.
  • Hurricanes forward Bryan Bickell started his first game in Charlotte last night since returning from a multiple sclerosis diagnosis last October, earning an assist in a 6-1 Checkers win over Cleveland. Bickell is eying a return to the NHL roster before the end of the season.

Since today is an afternoon game, neither team will have a pregame skate. The Canes will make one change, with Brock McGinn missing the game with an injury that kept him out of practice yesterday. Derek Ryan will slot back into the lineup in McGinn’s place.
