Game Notes

  • Tonight is the third matchup of the five-game season series between the Islanders and Hurricanes. The Canes are 2-0 so far this season, winning 7-4 in Raleigh on January 14 and 5-4 in overtime in Brooklyn on February 4.
  • The game tonight is the Canes’ token appearance on NBCSN this season. Not to worry, though; John Forslund will call the game, so it will be just like home cooking.
  • This is the Canes’ only home and home back-to-back sequence of the season. The Canes are 6-3-3 in the front end of back-to-backs this year.
  • Valentin Zykov made his league debut on Thursday night against the Rangers and scored his first NHL goal on his first shot in a Canes sweater.
  • He was then injured early in Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs, prompting the Canes to call up Lucas Wallmark from Charlotte to make his own debut tonight. Want to learn more about the call up? Check it out below. Here’s our story from yesterday about Wallmark’s callup.
  • Teuvo Teravainen has registered 32 points in 63 games and is three points shy of tying his career best 35 points last season with Chicago.
  • Sebastian Aho has scored 20 goals in his rookie NHL season, including 3 multi-goal games. Aho is tied with Shane Willis for second all-time among Canes rookie goal scorers. Among all rookies, Aho ranks third in goals and seventh in points.
