Game Notes

  • Charlotte Checkers forward Valentin Zykov was recalled yesterday. He is expected to play his first game in a Hurricanes sweater tonight, assuming Phil Di Giuseppe is still on the shelf. Zykov was acquired at the 2016 deadline in a trade that involved forward Kris Versteeg.
  • Hurricanes blueliner Justin Faulk leads all Canes defensemen and is tied for third among league defensemen with 12 goals on the season.
  • Tonight is the Rangers’ first visit to Raleigh since the Hurricanes’ home opener way back on October 28. The Canes won that game 3-2, then the Rangers swept a pair over the Canes with two wins in the span of less than a week on November 29 (3-2) and December 3 (4-2).
  • In the October 28 matchup between the Canes and the Rangers, Jeff Skinner recorded a three-point night, including two goals and earning himself first star of the night honors. Skinner needs to find his rhythm again if the Canes want a shot at the Rags.
  • The Hurricanes trail all time 53-66-16 against the Blueshirts. However, they hold a solid 34-25-7 record at home, despite remaining abysmal (19-41-9) in Madison Square Garden.
  • Next Thursday is St Baldrick’s Foundation Night in PNC. If you sign up to shave your head you get two free tickets. Check out more below.
