Canes Country’s 2017 Playoff Pick ‘Em Challenge: Round 1

New, comments

It’s back this year, with a charitable twist.

Jamie Kellner

Want to win free stuff from Canes Country? Of course you do. And, for the fifth year in a row, the Canes Country Playoff Pick ‘Em is here to make all your dreams come true.

This year, though, we’re doing things a little bit differently. Given the events of the past week, we want to show how much Bryan Bickell’s fight with multiple sclerosis means to Canes fans - and hockey fans generally - everywhere. So this year, there’s a $5 entry fee (you may donate more if you’d like), and we’re offering a $50 gift card of your choice to the winner of the pick ‘em. The remainder will be donated on behalf of Canes Country’s readers to the Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation in celebration and honor of Bryan Bickell’s career.

Here are the basics:

  • As in the past, comment on this post with the winner of each series and how many games. For the first round, you get one point for the correct winner, and five bonus points if you also get the number of games correct. (In subsequent rounds, you’ll get more points for picking the winner; the five-point bonus remains constant throughout the contest.)
  • After you comment, send your donation via PayPal to sbncanescountry@gmail.com. Make sure you include your username so that we know who to credit the donation to.
  • All picks must be in by puck drop of the first game of the first round, which is this Wednesday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m. Comments will be closed at that time.
  • Please make certain that the email address associated with your SB Nation account is correct and active. We will email the winner, so if your email isn’t current, we won’t have any way to reach you. Also, if you would like to enter but are having trouble logging into your account, please email sbncanescountry@gmail.com and we will do our best to assist you.

As a carrot on the stick, everyone who does one of the following: (a) Likes the Facebook post for the contest, or (b) retweets the link to the contest, will be entered to win a House of Swank Hurricanes Homegrown shirt! (note: you must RT; a quote tweet doesn’t count because we can’t track them)

You must like or RT the appropriate thing by the time the first round picks lock, Wednesday at 7:00.

For my own sanity, please post your picks in the following order (I enter them into a spreadsheet and it is considerably easier to manage 100+ entries if they're all in the same order):

Here are the Canes Country staff picks for the first round. Good luck!
