  • The Hurricanes are skating again! OK, so it’s only a few, mostly the ones who live in the Triangle year-round, but at least it’s something. Jamie went over to RCI and has a report and some photos at the bottom of today’s post.
  • The Popternative podcast featured an interview with Nicolas Roy:
  • Elias Lindholm was mentioned in passing in a story about David Pastrnak as a member of an exclusive club. [Puck Daddy]
  • Remember last week’s Josh Ho-Sang Goes Zen series of tweets? Go inside the artist’s mind here. [Lighthouse Hockey]
  • Where does the NHL turn to find their new referee recruits? Increasingly, to minor hockey. [The Athletic ($)]
  • Bruce Boudreau, Minnesota Wild coach and amateur team owner? Of course. [ESPN]

From Jamie:

The 2017-18 season got another step closer yesterday when several of the Hurricanes players took to the ice at RCI for informal practice. Locals Jaccob Slavin, Cam Ward, and Raleigh’s newest resident Justin Williams were accompanied by Haydn Fleury, Sergey Tolchinsky, and Valentin Zykov. Shane Willis led a few skating drills then the players held a short rink scrimmage. Kings goaltender Jeff Zatkoff, who has family in the area and routinely skates here, also practiced with the team along with another local skater that wasn’t identifiable by anyone in the small crowd of spectators.

The informal practices aren’t team-sanctioned and unfortunately they aren’t on the RCI schedule, but you can usually find the players there between 10 am and noon on weekdays heading up to training camp, with new players joining on a daily basis.

Enjoy a few photos from yesterday’s practice.
