The Carolina Hurricanes announced an additional 13 cuts from their training camp roster on Saturday ahead of their game against the Washington Capitals.
2011 fourth-round draft pick Gregory Hofmann will return to his Swiss club HC Lugano. Forwards Clark Bishop, Warren Foegele, Steven Lorentz, Andrew Poturalski, Nick Schilkey, Spencer Smallman and Sergey Tolchinsky, defensemen Tyler Ganly, Keegan Kanzig and Josh Wesley, and goalies Alex Nedeljkovic and Callum Booth were all assigned to the Charlotte Checkers. None of these moves are unexpected as all 13 departing players were on the outside looking in at a roster spot entering camp.
A large number of cuts were expected this weekend as Charlotte’s training camp starts on Monday. With that in mind, the Canes have also placed Patrick Brown, Brenden Kichton, Philip Samuelsson, Dennis Robertson and Andrew Miller on waivers with the intent of sending them to the Checkers in time for the start of camp.
The training camp roster is down to 40 as of now with the likes of Martin Necas, Janne Kuokkanen, Julien Gauthier, Aleksi Saarela, and Jake Bean all still in the mix. The team will need to cut a minimum of 17 more players, or 12 following the five waiver moves, by the end of training camp.
Below is the official team release.
