Game Notes

  • The Hurricanes trail all-time with a 61-64-17-1 record against the Penguins, including a 26-34-9-1 record in Pittsburgh.
  • The two sides will place four times in total this season. Their last matchup came on December 29th when the Hurricanes took the Penguins down 2-1 in regulation on home ice.
  • Hurricanes prospect Aleksi Saarela was recalled from the Charlotte Checkers last night. The Finnish forward has scored 13 goals and six assists for 19 points in 31 games for the Charlotte Checkers.
  • Lucas Wallmark is doubtful tonight after taking a skate blade in an unfortunate location on Tuesday night. Marcus Kruger also remains out, and was placed on injured reserve yesterday.
  • The Penguins, by comparison, are heading in the opposite direction, and will likely see Matt Murray in net tonight for his first start of the new year.
