Carolina Hurricanes vs. Detroit Red Wings: Lineups and Game Discussion

The Canes return to home ice for a tilt with the Wings.

Jamie Kellner

The Carolina Hurricanes return to home ice Saturday night following a four-game road trip that saw them pick up only three points as they went 1-2-1. In what will be their second meeting this season, the Canes will look to pilfer another two points from the near cellar-dwelling Detroit Red Wings. A good sign was spotted at today’s morning skate, as Victor Rask was seen skating, puck handling, and shooting as he works his way back from hand surgery.

For Carolina, the lineup shuffling continues somewhat, as Haydn Fleury draws back into the lineup in place of Trevor van Riemsdyk, and slotting in alongside Dougie Hamilton. Scott Darling is expected to make his second consecutive start in net as well. The Canes are expected to ice the lineup as follows:

Warren Foegele - Jordan Staal - Justin Williams

Micheal Ferland - Sebastian Aho - Teuvo Teravainen

Andrei Svechnikov - Lucas Wallmark - Jordan Martinook

Haydn Fleury - Dougie Hamilton

Jaccob Slavin - Brett Pesce

Calvin de Haan - Justin Faulk

Scott Darling

Curtis McElhinney

The Detroit Red Wings make their way to Raleigh on the back end of a back-to-back, but also riding a high as they left home as 3-2 overtime winners against the New York Rangers last evening on the strength of an OT goal from the dynamic Dylan Larkin. The Wings did not skate in Raleigh this morning, but are expected to turn to backup netminder Jonathan Bernier in net. Bernier has posted a paltry .873 save percentage in his five appearances this season. The only other confirmed change from coach Jeff Blashill is Wade Megan inserted in place of the injured Jacob de la Rose. The Wings expected lines are below:

Darren Helm - Dylan Larkin - Anthony Mantha

Gustav Nyquist - Frans Nielsen - Andrea Athanasiou

Justin Abdelkader - Luke Glendening - Tyler Bertuzzi

Michael Rasmussen - Wade Megan - Martin Frk

Trevor Daley - Mike Green

Danny Dekeyser - Nick Jensen

Niklas Kronwall - Dennis Cholowski

Jonathan Bernier

Jimmy Howard
