Game Notes

  • Tonight is the Panthers’ only visit to Raleigh this season. Later this season the teams will play twice in Sunrise in the span of a little more than a week, with the Hurricanes visiting on February 21 and March 2.
  • The Canes have won more home games against Florida than against any other franchise, going 31-10-2 with two ties in their history at home against the Panthers. True to form, Carolina won both home games last season, on their way to a 2-1 record in the season series.
  • Longtime Hurricanes tormentor Roberto Luongo has struggled of late. He’s posted an .818 save percentage and a 3.07 goals allowed average on the season, the worst GAA he’s recorded since his rookie season.
  • The Canes are putting together a decent home stand thus far, posting a 3-1-1 record thus far. Tonight’s results will determine whether or not the stretch marks a change in pace for the team.
  • With an empty net goal on Wednesday night, Andrei Svechnikov has recorded 9 points (5g, 4a) in 21 games this season. His five goals is tied for fifth among rookies.
  • Panthers coach Bob Boughner was once a Hurricanes defenseman, spending 43 games with the franchise in the 2003-04 season. For exactly one month, he was teammates with current Canes captain Justin Williams, from 1/20/04 when Williams was acquired to 2/20/04 when Boughner was flipped to Colorado.
