Game Notes
- Tonight’s game is the annual Hockey Fights Cancer awareness night. The broadcasters and team personnel will wear special Hockey Fights Cancer ties during the game, and the team will wear special Hockey Fights Cancer lavender jerseys during warm ups.
- In case you missed it (really?), the Hurricanes placed Scott Darling and Valentin Zykov on waivers yesterday. If they both clear, they’ll report to the Charlotte Checkers. We’ll know at noon today if anyone has put in a claim.
- Tonight marks the first of two games between the teams this season. The second matchup will be in Anaheim next Friday.
- The Ducks won the season series last year, posting a 2-0-0 record. The Hurricanes managed to secure one point out of a possible four in the series.
- Head coach Rod Brind’Amour has the best record through his first 24 games behind the bench in franchise history.
- Tonight’s game is the first before a three game road swing on the West Coast. The Canes will take on the Kings, Sharks, and Ducks again next week.
Storm Advisory
- The Hurricanes have announced details pertaining to the Canes Bash. [NHL]
- Calvin Pickard, another former Leafs goaltender who hasn’t seen quite the level of success that Curtis McElhinney has, was claimed off of waivers.

- Erik Karlsson was agitated by a reporter’s question about his return to Ottawa.
- Very interesting stuff:
Was Erik Karlsson part of the problem?

With the former captain making his first trip back to Ottawa since his departure, there's word he may have had a role in what was actually wrong in the @Senators room.#ErikKarlsson #TSNHockey @7ElevenCanada #ThatsHockey @CJ_Stevenson pic.twitter.com/NlOZWqweBc
- Karl Alzner has reportedly generated a bit of trade interest since clearing waivers. This is somewhat relevant to Carolina given the current waiver situation.
Since being placed on waivers, Karl Alzner has generated extra trade interest. Hearing DAL, TOR, NYI, COL among teams that have reached out. Habs being asked to take a player back and retain part of Alzner’s contract. Nothing imminent, we’ll see if things materialize.

- The conference-leading Buffalo Sabres (seriously!) own four first round picks over the next two drafts.
Worth remembering that the sizzling Sabres own 4 first-round picks over the next two drafts, their own 2 plus SJ and STL. If the Blues' pick this year ends up being top 10, they can opt to give the Sabres the 2020 1st RD pick instead.
