Report: Mrazek out “a few days” with groin injury

Looks like there was more to Mrazek being scratched in favor of Curtis McElhinney last night in Vegas.

It looks like the Carolina Hurricanes’ cautiousness in not acting quickly to resolve their three-goalie situation may prove to be a wise strategy after all.

According to a rough translation of an article by Czech-language reporter Michael Langr at NHL.cz, Mrazek suffered a groin injury in Friday night’s overtime loss to the Coyotes. He does not believe that the injury will be a long-term absence, telling Langr that doctors have said it should be for a few days or maybe a week. “I hope it’s not for long and I’ll be back next week,” he said.

Mrazek, who held down the starter’s job while Scott Darling recovered from a hamstring injury, sports a 3-3-2 record, a 2.70 goals-against average and an .881 save percentage in eight games this season. The Hurricanes are on the road for two more games, against the Blues on Tuesday and the Blackhawks on Thursday, before returning home to face the Red Wings on Saturday.
