Game Notes

  • Tonight marks the second of three matchups between the teams this season. The Canes took down Montreal in overtime in the Bell Centre on November 27th. They will meet a final time in PNC Arena in March.
  • The Hurricanes have won six of their last seven games against the Canadiens.
  • The Hurricanes recalled Janne Kuokkanen from the Checkers yesterday. The 20-year-old currently leads the Checkers in scoring with 27 points (11g, 16a).
  • Antti Niemi had a really tough game against the Wild on Tuesday night. He stopped just 17 of 24 shots and was yanked halfway through the third period. After that rough showing there’s a good chance we’ll see Carey Price tonight.
  • Micheal Ferland made his return on Tuesday in Raleigh after missing four games with a concussion. It didn’t last long as he shut it down just halfway through the first period. Despite that, he practiced with the team yesterday, so his status is unknown tonight.
  • Curtis McElhinney practiced with the team but didn’t “feel great” after. He won’t be making the trip to Montreal, indicating that we’ll be seeing Mrazek and Darling again tonight.

Storm Advisory

  • If you have the subscription, the Triangle Business Journal ran a great piece on Tom Dundon. [TBJ]
  • Yesterday we mentioned the player-specific goal songs that the Checkers will be using. Sara Civian decided to ask around the Hurricanes’ locker room to see what those players would choose. The selection for Dougie Hamilton is too obvious. [The Athletic ($)]
  • Jonathan Toews hit a major milestone.
  • “You worry if [concussions] ever puts you in a position where you don’t get to see your kids grow up” - T.J. Oshie [The Athletic ($)]
  • Here’s a pretty crazy coincidence.
  • There’s some good info in yesterday’s 31 Thoughts. [SN]
