The Wager Wire: Week 2

New, comments

It’s a good thing we’re playing with fake money.

So, remember last week when we told you that this exercise was going to be one in which we all compete to see who loses the most money the fastest? So far, we’re living up to that reputation.

Of our six degenerates, five lost money last week. Only Zeke’s parlay of the Oilers and over 5.5 goals was a winner, so he made money - although not as much as he could have, since the Ducks didn’t score three goals.

We've tallied up the damage and the table is below. Then, we’re off to this week’s bets! As always, prices come from Bovada and were accurate at the time the wager was made.

Banker’s Bonus!

Every week, the banker will be putting a bit of his own money on the line. This week’s bonus offer is easy: if Andrei Svechnikov scores at any time in tonight’s Hurricanes/Canadiens game, including the shootout, the banker will offer a free $10 bet next week to be used on either the Sabres/Capitals game next Friday or the Bruins/Predators game next Saturday.

This Week’s Bets

Brian

  • Parlay: Canadiens to win under 6 goals. I honestly have no idea how this game is going to turn out, but I do know that the Canadiens have been reborn defensively since Shea Weber came back. The under I feel pretty good about; the game outcome, not so much. $6 pays $14.97.
  • Parlay: Sabres to win, EDM/WPG over 6, Predators to win -1.5. The Sabres seem like easy money at home against the Coyotes, I’m assuming that goals will be had in a game featuring Patrik Laine and Connor McDavid, and if the Predators can’t beat the Canucks by two goals I’ll be pretty surprised. $10 pays $59.70.

Zeke

  • Sabres to win -1.5: Arizona is coming in on a three game losing streak and has given up at least 4 goals in each loss. +180 odds, $8 pays $14.
  • Lightning/Maple Leafs over 7 goals: These are two of the top three scoring teams in the league. Lightning have scored five or more goals in six of their last seven games. The Leafs have Tavares and Matthews. +105 odds, $10 pays $10.50.

Andrew S

  • Canadiens to win -1.5: +230 odds, $5 pays $11.50.
  • Parlay: Sabres, Blue Jackets, Predators to win. $5 pays $12.40.

Kevin

  • Hurricanes to win: I think the Canes are actually in a decent value spot here at almost even money. Montreal’s PP is near the bottom of the league (which means they’ll score 3 tonight) so if the Canes can win at even strength I like their chances. -105 odds, $10.50 pays $10.
  • Parlay: ARI/BUF over 5.5, VAN/NSH over 5.5. Sabres/Coyotes is an over play that will likely move up to 6 from 5.5 before game time when the two backups are confirmed. If this is a Kuemper/Ullmark matchup, gimme the over. Buffalo has given Ullmark a ton of support this year offensively. Canucks/Predators is a play against Jacob Markstrom. I’m feeling 4 or 5 for Nashville tonight, as Vancouver is the second most penalized team in the league. Only hope is that Vancouver can put a couple in the net. $10 pays $23.65.

Cody

  • Hurricanes up 2-1 at the end of the first period: Canes scoring a few early after the Toronto game seems possible. Hopefully they come out motivated. +950 odds, $8 pays $76.
  • Sabres win by 2 goals over Coyotes: The Sabres may win by more than 2 goals but the payout was much less, so I’m taking a shot that Arizona doesn’t get completely blown out. +650 odds, $8 pays $52.

Jake

  • Hurricanes to win: Sebastian Aho is internally infuriated about his cool-off in scoring and will dangle and skate his way to find ways to expose Carey Price. -105 odds, $8 wins $7.62.
  • Sabres to win -1.5: I secretly like seeing Jeff do the goal thing that we can’t. That line is solid, and their OT unit is strong if it gets to that. +170 odds, $10 wins $17.
