Game Notes

  • Today’s game is the second of two meetings during the 2018-19 season. The Coyotes took the first matchup by a score of 4-3 in overtime on November 2nd. Despite the loss, the Hurricanes showed a lot of fight in erasing a 3-0 deficit in the game.
  • The Hurricanes’ three goaltenders have combined record of 8-0-2 against the Coyotes with impressive .921 SV% and 2.11 GAA.
  • Andrei Svechnikov recorded an assist against Washington and now ranks tied for fourth among NHL rookies in points (16) and tied for fifth in goals (8).
  • Both Haydn Fleury and Jordan Staal are out of the lineup with concussions.
  • Micheal Ferland has missed two games since leaving the Maple Leafs game midway through the first. Prior to that, he missed four games with a concussion. The Canes didn’t practice yesterday, so his status is unknown leading into the game. The same goes for Curtis McElhinney, although since Scott Darling remains on the roster it stands to reason that McElhinney will be sidelined again today.

Lines and Rosters

The Hurricanes haven’t released any information about tonight’s lineup other than confirming that Petr Mrazek will start between the pipes. With no update to Micheal Ferland or Jordan Staal, it’s likely that they’ll both miss another game.

Injuries and Scratches: Micheal Ferland (upper body), Haydn Fleury (concussion), Curtis McElhinney (lower body), Jordan Staal (IR concussion)

The Coyotes were bit by an injury bug as well as they lost starting goaltender Antti Raanta indefinitely to a lower body injury last week. It’s likely that he’ll miss the remaining regular season. Like the Hurricanes, the Coyotes are scrambling to find a number one goaltender to salvage the season. Here’s what you can expect from them today.

Michael Bunting - Mario Kempe - Conor Garland
