Carolina returns home to take on a Metropolitan opponent in the Philadelphia Flyers as the Canes try to close out 2018 with a victory and avoid the floor of the division table.
The biggest news leading up to the game: the Hurricanes placed Phil Di Giuseppe on waivers hours before the matchup. Jordan Staal is still out with a concussion. Jordan Martinook was off the ice during practice, according to Michael Smith, but is projected to be in the lineup.
Curtis McElhinney (7-5-1, .922 SV) was named the starter just a few hours before the game. He allowed just one goal on 29 shots against the Devils on Saturday, and Rod Brind’Amour apparently thought he looked sharp enough to start twice in a row
Here’s how things should shake out tonight according to Hurricanes(dot)com:
Brock McGinn - Sebastian Aho -Teuvo Teravainen
Jordan Martinook - Lucas Wallmark - Justin Williams
Andrei Svechnikov - Victor Rask - Micheal Ferland
Janne Kuokkanen - Clark Bishop - Warren Foegele
Defense
Jaccob Slavin - Brett Pesce
Calvin de Haan - Justin Faulk
Trevor van Riemsdyk - Dougie Hamilton
Curtis McElhinney
Petr Mrazek
The Flyers are missing a couple of everyday players, including one of last year’s rookie sensations in Nolan Patrick, who is out with a upper body injury.
But we will get to see what all the noise is about with the Flyers’ new starter Carter Hart (2-2-0, .917 SV). For much of the season, Philly’s goalies have let puck leak through, but Hart, with a 2.12 GAA, has stood fairly strong for his team.
Here’s the projected lineup for the opponents:
James van Riemsdyk - Claude Giroux - Travis Konecny
Wayne Simmonds - Sean Couturier - Jakub Voracek
Scott Laughton - Jordan Weal - Michael Raffl
Oskar Lindblom - Phil Varone - Dale Weise
Ivan Provorov - Travis Sanheim
Robert Hagg - Shayne Gostisbehere
Andrew MacDonald - Radko Gudas
Carter Hart
