Los Angeles Kings at Carolina Hurricanes: Lineups and Game Discussion

Another fight between two Wild Card contenders, but this time in different conferences.

The Los Angeles Kings are trading coasts tonight to take on the Hurricanes as both teams battle for wild card positions—Kings looking from outside by a point, Canes from within by a point.

For Carolina, Bill Peters has decided that after a three-game win streak, it’s time for drastic measures in line structures...wait, what?

That’s right! The TSA line is now the MSL line (More Shots Line? Mighty Slammers League? Mandarin as a Second Language?) with Brock McGinnn, Jordan Staal and Elias Lindholm.

But now we also have the great line name of all time: the ASS line. The third line of Sebastian Aho, Jeff Skinner and Lee Stempniak looks to bring a barrage of shots...and then there’s Lee Stempniak.

Scott Darling had a great night in net against Avs, but Cam Ward (16-7-3/2.59 GAA/.913 SV) looks to be the likely starter, according to Michael Smith.

Tonight is also Girls Hockey Night as part of Hockey Is For Everyone Month, and the Canes are welcoming bsck a Triangle native to kick off the festivities:

Here’s the new look for the Hurricanes:

Brock McGinn - Jordan Staal - Elias Lindholm

Teuvo Teravainen - Victor Rask - Justin Williams

Jeff Skinner - Sebastian Aho - Lee Stempniak

Joakim Nordstrom - Derek Ryan - Phil Di Giuseppe

Jaccob Slavin - Brett Pesce

Haydn Fleury - Justin Faulk

Noah Hanifin - Trevor van Riemsdyk

Cam Ward

Scott Darling

Scratches: Klas Dahlbeck (healthy)

The Hurricanes catch a break against the Kings with Dustin Brown out of the lineup after a one-game suspension was handed down for kneeing Mikhail Sergechev in the 4-3 loss for LA on Saturday.

Trevor Lewis is still out indefinitely after an injury against Florida on Friday.

Add Jonathan Quick (21-19-2/2.46 GAA/.921 SV) to the starting spot in net, as Josh Cooper of lakingsinsider.com said he rushed off the ice first. Here’s what he reported the lines to be in morning skate:

Alex Iafallo - Anze Kopitar - Tyler Toffoli

Tanner Pearson - Adrian Kempe - Marian Gaborik

Kyle Clifford - Torrey Mitchell - Michael Amadio

Andy Andreoff - Nick Shore - Jonny Brodzinski

Derek Forbort - Drew Doughty

Jake Muzzin - Paul LaDue

Alec Martinez - Christian Folin

Jonathan Quick

Darcy Kuemper

Scratches/injuries: Dustin Brown (suspension), Trevor Lewis (injured)
