Welcome back to Local Hockey Round-up! I apologize for going dark the last few weeks but luckily, things are starting to heat up. The 12U Junior Hurricanes have sent a team to Quebec City to compete in the 2018 International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. The team hit some (for lack of a better term) road bumps on their way north of the border, thanks to some lengthy weather delays, but who doesnt love traveling with 20+ twelve-year-olds on airplane and buses for days on end?! Coaches Shane Willis, Brian Mehm and Mitch Hodgkiss will hope to lead the young Canes to a title.
The team will hit the ice today at 7:15pm today, taking on the Montreal Canadiens....wait... the AA Pee-Wee Canadiens. (That could have been ugly.) If they win, they will play again Tuesday at 2:15pm and Wednesday if they can’t pull out the victory today. The tournament stretches to February 18th and you can keep track of the team through the Tourney website. Just remember to translate is from French; otherwise you’ll be cursing yourself for all those years you skipped out on language classes in high-school.
In other news, the Polar Adult Hockey League is in full swing for the Spring season. Players such as Jocelyn Langlois, Craig Atkinson, William Sheridan and Shane Blaha pace various South divisions in scoring with games being played at the Garner and Cary Ice Houses. Beer-league hockey in North Carolina is fun to watch and even more exciting to play with divisions for all skill levels. Come out and see for yourself on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights with master schedules posted to the league website.
