The Carolina Hurricanes announced eight training camp cuts ahead of Friday’s preseason game against the Washington Capitals.
Steven Lorentz, Cliff Pu, Aleksi Saarela, Spencer Smallman, Josiah Didier, Michael Fora, Josh Wesley, and Jeremy Helvig were all assigned to the Charlotte Checkers. Day one of Checkers training camp is Monday, September 24.

That leaves the Hurricanes with 39 players on the training camp roster, including rookie Morgan Geekie who has impressed in training camp, and Michal Cajkovsky, who is signed with the team on a PTO and scored a goal in his preseason debut.

RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned forwards Steven Lorentz, Cliff Pu, Aleksi Saarela and Spencer Smallman, defensemen Josiah Didier, Michael Fora and Josh Wesley, and goaltender Jeremy Helvig to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL).
