Carolina Hurricanes at Edmonton Oilers: Lineups and Game Discussion

New, comments

#CanesAfterDark returns with a three-game swing through western Canada, starting tonight in Edmonton.

The Nino Niederreiter era didn’t begin on the right foot for the Hurricanes after they put together an embarrassing effort against the Ottawa Senators Friday night. The Canes will look to get their first win in a pair of games after an impressive streak that gives them a 7-3-0 record over their last 10 games.

After Clark Bishop was sent to Charlotte yesterday, defenseman Haydn Fleury was recalled from Charlotte earlier this morning as insurance for the trip out west. The Canes may need him tonight after Micheal Ferland woke up not feeling well, according to head coach Rod Brind’Amour, missing the morning skate and a game time decision. If Ferland is unable to play, the Canes will go with a lineup of seven defensemen and eleven forwards. Petr Mrazek will get the start in net.

Edmonton comes into tonight’s game off a loss on Saturday night against the Bill Peters-led Calgary Flames. The Oilers lost 5-2 after playing a strong first period but yielding three goals to Calgary in the second period. The Flames, who the Canes will face Tuesday night, didn’t look back and secured an easy win. A bright spot for the Oilers? Connor McDavid of course! He has 70 — yes, 70 — points in 46 games.

Head coach Ken Hitchcock said a few players were a bit banged up after last night’s game, but they will wait until after warmups to finalizes any changes, so their projected lineup is taken from last evening’s game.
