Game Notes
- Tonight’s game is the first of two matchups between the teams this season. The Flames will be in Raleigh for the final matchup immediately after the All-Star break on February 3rd.
- The Hurricanes will be taking on former head coach Bill Peters for the first time since he resigned last spring. Over the course of four seasons, he coached the Canes to a 137-138-53 record.
- Tonight will also be the first time that the Hurricanes face off against two of their past 5th overall picks in Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin. Lindholm skated in 374 games for Carolina and 188 points (64g, 124a). Hanifin posted 83 points (18g, 65a) over the course of three seasons with the team. They were traded to the Flames last June in exchange for Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland, and defensive prospect Adam Fox.
- Another former Hurricane, Derek Ryan, signed with the Flames in free agency. Ryan played 153 games as a member of the Hurricanes after signing with the team as a European free agent in 2015
- The two teams split the season series in 2017-18, with the Hurricanes earning a 2-1 win in Calgary and the Flames posting a 4-1 win in Carolina.

- On the flip side, Elias Lindholm has become a complete player since joining the Flames, which begs the question as to why he couldn’t do that in Carolina [SportsNet].
- ICYMI yesterday, the Hurricanes extended Teuvo Teravainen on a 5 year, $27 million contract.

Solid.
- Koskinen’s new contract means the writing is likely on the wall for Cam Talbot.
My understanding is the Oilers spoke to Talbot about the Koskinen extension a couple of days ago. Didn’t want him blindsided. I suspect Talbot will be willing to accept a trade anywhere at this stage.

- Flames’ forward Matthew Tkachuk is happy to see Micheal Ferland again, and it looks like he’ll likely be back in the lineup tonight.
Nice hug for Micheal Ferland from Matthew Tkachuk on the visitors’ bench just before the Flames started practice. Ferland missed the game last night dealing w back issues, but feels better today and expects to play in Calgary tomorrow night.
