Game Notes
- The Hurricanes and Islanders are meeting for the first of four matchups between the teams this season. The Isles had the Hurricanes number during the regular season last year, posting a 3-1-0 record. That record included a win in overtime in the Canes home opener.
- But things were different when the two teams met in the postseason. The Hurricanes swept the Islanders in the second round of the playoffs last spring. Teuvo Teravainen led the way during that series, picking up three goals and two assists in four games.
- Andrei Svechnikov has been on fire to start the season, recording six assists in the first four matchups. Svechnikov played 22 games before reaching six assists during his rookie year.
- The Hurricanes are 4-0 to start the season for just the second time in franchise history. They’re looking to start a season at 5-0 for the first time in franchise history.
- Julien Gauthier will make his NHL debut tonight - finally - after being recalled on Wednesday to cover for Jordan Martinook’s absence due to a core muscle injury. Martinook will undergo surgery today, and we send our best wishes that it goes well!
