Game Notes

  • Tonight’s matchup is the first of three between the two teams, and the only one in Raleigh this season. The teams will meet in Little Caesars Arena on November 24 and March 10.
  • The Red Wings took the season series in 2018-19 with a 2-1-0 record. Carolina posted a 1-1-1 record.
  • Petr Mrazek goes up against his first NHL club tonight. He played 166 games for the Red Wings between 2013 and 2018, before being traded to the Flyers and eventually signing with the Hurricanes.
  • With a win over Calgary on Tuesday, the Hurricanes closed out the month of October with an 8-3-1 record. The Canes matched the most wins (8) and points (17) in October in franchise history.
  • Tonight’s game starts a busy month of November: 15 games in 30 days, split nearly evenly between home (7) and road (8) matchups. It’s also the first Friday game since the second week of the season, which means the Canes’ black alternate jerseys will be on display tonight.
  • The Canes have traditionally had trouble scoring, but this season they’ve scored at least two goals in each of their first 12 games. The Canes last scored at least two goals in their first 12 games in 2005-06, when they carried the streak through 14 games, earning an 11-2-1 record in the process.
  • Jordan Staal is one goal shy of his 100th goal in a Hurricanes sweater.

Storm Advisory

  • Follow the Evolution of ‘The Bobfather’ in a great article on The Athletic.
  • The Checkers have released Jamie McGinn from his PTO.
  • Here’s a good interview with former Hurricane Justin Faulk, including details on a Storm Surge that never saw the light of day.
  • Don Waddell made the most of Halloween this year.
  • And so did Hamilton!
