Hurricane Tracking 11/13/19: FanPulse Results and the Job Approval Tracking Poll

It’s time to gauge fan opinion yet again. How much has the recent cold spell affected your opinion of the Hurricanes?

NHL: Ottawa Senators at Carolina Hurricanes James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Hurricanes have finally snapped a four-game losing streak. What could that portend for our biweekly tracking poll?

First up, the FanPulse question from two Wednesdays ago asked if fans thought specific NHL teams were contenders or pretenders. It seems the Canes’ losing streak hasn’t dimmed the team’s prospects with fans around the league, because of the six teams surveyed, only one had a majority of fans believing that their hot start was legit:

We also asked which team has been the biggest disappointment so far this season. Unsurprisingly, the Sharks lead the way, although it’s a pretty tight race with four of the six teams surveyed at or above 20% in the balloting.

The next FanPulse survey will come out on Wednesday. If you haven’t signed up yet, now is a great time to do so to participate in the new survey. Don’t forget that eventually our tracking polls will be folded into FanPulse and only registered users will be able to participate in the voting, so sign up now and you won’t miss a beat!

Also, note that for this week only, we will have a one-week poll to align with the SBN FanPulse reporting. Our next edition of Hurricane Tracking will be out next Wednesday for that reason, and following that we’ll get back onto an every-other-week rotation.

Here are how things have looked across the first three polls for the three main decision-makers atop the Hurricanes hierarchy:

Also from the last series of polls:

  • Where will the Hurricanes finish: 83% top three, 7% Metro champs, 9% wild card, 0% out of playoffs
  • Best aspect of the first month: 45% defensive play, 42% goal scoring, 6% power play, 4% goaltending, 2% penalties taken, 1% penalty kill, 0% penalties drawn
  • Needs most attention: 57% penalties taken, 24% power play, 5% each goal scoring and penalty kill, 4% each defensive play and goaltending, 1% penalties drawn
  • First month MVP: 83% Dougie Hamilton, 15% Erik Haula, 2% Petr Mrazek
  • Points in November prediction: 65% 18-21, 20% 22 or more, 14% 14-17, 2% 10-13
  • Right/wrong track: 99% right track
