Game Notes

  • The Hurricanes and Flyers meet tonight for the first of four games between the teams this season.
  • The Hurricanes swept the season series in 2018-19 with a 4-0-0 record. They outscored the Flyers 17-9 over the four games, and it was the fourth time that the Hurricanes swept the Flyers in a season series in franchise history.
  • Jordan Staal has tallied 39 points (21g, 18a) in 62 career games against the Flyers. He has scored more goals against Philadelphia than any other team in his NHL career.
  • Trevor van Riemsdyk would play his 10th career games against brother James van Riemsdyk tonight. However, Rod Brind’Amour did mention yesterday that Haydn Fleury was going to get into a few games soon, so the defensive makeup for tonight’s game remains to be seen.
  • The Hurricanes and Flyers met on New Year’s Eve last season with identical records of 15-17-5, trailing Montreal in the final Wild Card spot by 10 points. The Canes won that game and kicked off a miraculous 31-12-2 run over the second half of the season to charge into the playoffs.
  • The Hurricanes have scored at least two goals in each of their first 14 games this season.

Storm Advisory

  • After a break from the game, Scott Darling has found a new spot to play.
