Game Notes
- The Hurricanes and Flames are meeting for the second of two matchups this season. The Canes picked up a 2-1 in against the Flames at PNC Arena on October 29th Andrei Svechnikov scored two goals, including the very memorable lacrosse-style goal.
- Once more, for old time’s sake:

- The Hurricanes enter the game this afternoon with a 1-0-1 record on the five game Western Conference road trip. The Canes earned a 2-0-1 record on their Western Canada road trip last season (1/20-1/23), earning wins in Edmonton and Vancouver, while picking up a point in overtime in their game against Calgary.
- Former Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton ranks second in the NHL in goals by a defenseman this season with 11, after finishing second among NHL blueliners in goals last regular season with 18 goals. Since his acquisition from Calgary in 2018, Hamilton has scored more goals than any other defenseman in the NHL.
- Carolina’s defense has historically struggled to pick up points. This season is different, as the corps has combined for 24 goals, which is ranked for second in the NHL. Blueliners have accounted for 23.8% of the Hurricanes’ 101 goals this season.
- Jordan Martinook will suit up for his 100th career game in a Hurricanes sweater today. He has picked up 17 goals in 99 games with Carolina, and has become a central part of the team, earning the alternate captaincy this season.
Storm Advisory
- Terrible news out of Philadelphia. Our prayers and best wishes go out to Lindblom and the Flyers. [BSH]
#Flyers say that LW Oskar Lindblom likely will not play again this season and has been diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a form of bone cancer.

- Taylor Hall was kept out of last night’s game against Colorado.
Taylor Hall will not play tonight for NJ in COL.
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) December 14, 2019
- This may explain why:
I’m told Taylor Hall has not been dealt at this point, however, there is some traction in trade talks the Devils are having with teams and so the risk is not worth playing him play at the moment. Stay tuned. https://t.co/i3273tPiDX

- And here’s even more escalation:
I'd be surprised if Taylor Hall remained with #NJDevils into next week. Negotiations have reached a different level of urgency tonight.

- ...but he still is a Devil, at least for now.
- Ilya Kovalchuk’s contract with the Kings will apparently be terminated.
Hearing Kovalchuk's contract with the LA Kings will be terminated but Ilya still wants to stay in the NHL while having a lucrative offer from Omsk Avangard in the KHL #gokingsgo

- This is great news for the Canes.
#Rangers Adam Fox played in his 30th game of the season this past Tuesday against LA.

As a result, the 2020 3rd RD pick that NY sent to Carolina as part of the trade for Fox, has now been upgraded to a 2020 2nd RD pick instead.https://t.co/UOwu0C674D pic.twitter.com/ROPeMxMbdM
