The Wager Wire: Week 7

After a couple of weeks off, our punters get back to work, and some of them need to get on a run here sooner rather than later.

It’s been a while, but we’re back (and with a spiffy new logo!) for another edition of the Wager Wire. Since last we met, the Hurricanes made a trade for Nino Niederreiter and the All-Star break made it somewhat impossible to make bets on games that weren’t happening, so this is our first time back to the trough in three weeks.

Which is a shame, because last time around our punters actually showed themselves out well...for the most part. Here’s how the standings look at the moment:

The Wager Wire Bank

Bettor Last week profit/loss Current balance
Bettor Last week profit/loss Current balance
Brian -$25.00 -$17.23
Zeke -$60.00 $126.85
Kevin -$33.00 $139.67
Cody -$50.00 $61.88
Andrew -$15.00 $122.10
Jake -$20.00 $4.71

Lots of little wins, for the most part, and everyone pretty much clustered around the same general area...and then there are the top (Andrew) and bottom (Brian), and the less said about the latter the better.

This time around, we bid farewell to Jake, who has left CC for greener pastures at MLB and who we greatly miss. (Want to take his place? Send us an application! And if you’re brought on board, you can take his spot in the Wager Wire competition too!)

Onto this week! All bets are from Bodog and are accurate as of the time the bet was placed.

Banker’s Bonus!

The long-awaited (?) return of Valentin Zykov to PNC Arena is tonight, and the banker is betting big. If Zykov nets a goal, the banker will give everyone a free $25 three-team parlay next week.

This Week’s Bets

  • CAR/VGK will not go to overtime: I don’t want to bet on the Canes game, because it’s after a bye and who knows what they’re going to look like. So I’ll just take what should be an easy bet on the game not going to overtime - although with my luck in this exercise, nothing’s easy. -400 odds, $10 pays $2.50.
  • Parlay: Penguins over 3.5 goals, Leafs to win +1.5, Predators to win. Go big or go home, which I’m in deep danger of doing. $15 pays $97.51.

  • VGK to win first period 1-0: Vegas is in town so I’m feeling lucky. +400 odds, $5 pays $20.
  • Parlay: Penguins, Capitals, Maple Leafs to win. $8 pays $16.11.

  • CAR to win -1.5: Let’s do it, boys! +225 odds, $20 pays $45.
  • Parlay: Penguins -1.5, Blackhawks/Sabres over 6.0. $15 pays $36.

  • CAR/VGK over 6 goals: -115 odds, $11.50 pays $10.
  • Parlay: Flames/Capitals over 6, Flyers/Oilers over 6. $8 pays $17.95.

  • He’s busy writing up everything that N.C. State fans ever wanted to know about their new athletic director, so the banker is going to take a little bit of mercy on him and only fine him $10 for missing the deadline this time.
