Game Notes
- The Hurricanes took the first matchup of the season on January 11th with a 4-3 win in PNC Arena. Sebastian Aho scored two goals and Micheal Ferland posted the first three point (1g, 2a) night of his career. Jeff Skinner tallied a goal in his first game back in PNC Arena since the big offseason trade.
- The Hurricanes and Sabres are tied in the standings with 58 points while the Sabres have one game in hand. Both are on the outside looking in as they sit three points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets in the WC2 spot. The Canes could make up some major ground in the playoff race tonight if they can come out on the right side of a four point game.
- The two teams will meet once more this season when the Sabres visit Raleigh on March 16th.
- The Hurricanes have won seven consecutive games against the Sabres, their longest active winning streak against any opponent in the NHL.
- Sebastian Aho is historically hot against Buffalo, logging eight points (5g, 3a) in seven career games against Buffalo. Dougie Hamilton has posted 14 points (7g, 7a) in 19 career games against the Sabres.
- A reminder: tonight is a Fox Sports Southeast game. Plan accordingly.
