2019 NHL Draft: First Round Schedule, Draft Order, and Live Discussion

The Hurricanes will select late in tonight’s first round, but as always, things can change in an instant on the draft floor.

By virtue of their spectacular run to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Hurricanes will select late in the first round of tonight’s NHL Draft. While they’re not likely to find a player like Andrei Svechnikov who is ready to immediately jump into an NHL lineup, the next Sebastian Aho, Justin Faulk, Cam Ward, or Justin Williams could be well within their reach.

Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko are expected to be the first two players selected at tonight’s draft, The Metro division will likely snag both with the New Jersey Devils holding the first overall pick, followed by the New York Rangers at No. 2. Beyond that, the draft floor is wide open with little consensus on how the chips will fall.

The Hurricanes are scheduled to select at No. 28. Over the past week Kevin LeBlanc has profiled a few of the players that might be available when the Canes are on the board.

Beyond that, the Canes also hold nine additional picks in rounds 2 through 7 of the draft, including three in round 2, which will continue tomorrow.

Follow along here for updates and discussion as the night unfolds.
