On Tuesday afternoon, the Carolina Hurricanes announced a round of cuts to their training camp roster. Four players on NHL contracts were assigned to the Charlotte Checkers and three players on AHL-only contracts were released from their NHL tryouts. All seven players will report to Charlotte for their training camp, which began today.

Forwards Jacob Pritchard and Spencer Smallman, and defensemen Fredrik Claesson and Alex Lintuniemi, are all on NHL contracts that were reassigned to Charlotte. Forward Hunter Shinkaruk and defensemen Cavan Fitzgerald and Derek Sheppard are on AHL-only contracts and were released from their NHL tryout contracts.

Claesson and Lintuniemi are waiver-eligible and were placed on waivers Monday and cleared on Tuesday prior to be reassigned. Of note, forward Brian Gibbons and defensemen Roland McKeown and Kyle Wood were also placed on waivers Monday and cleared but were not reassigned. The Hurricanes have the flexibility to reassign them to Charlotte within the next 30 days without having to be placed on waivers again, but for now will remain on the training camp roster, which stands at 40 players.
