Never before has a league advanced from crowning a champion through the biggest moments of the offseason. Just a few weeks after the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup, the NHL has already hosted the 2020 Draft and gone through the first wave of free agency.

For the Hurricanes, the fanbase is clearly excited with what has happened so far. A plurality of fans gave Carolina a “B” on their draft class, with just slightly fewer giving an “A.”

The Hurricanes made eight picks, starting with Seth Jarvis at No. 13 overall. Be sure to catch up on our breakdown of the Jarvis pick here. The Canes made the rest of their eight picks on day two, making several high-upside selections. Canes Country broke down the entire class here.

Things got even better for the Hurricanes once free agency opened a week later. More than three-fourths of Carolina fans said they are happy with the Hurricanes offseason so far.

The Canes had a relatively quiet free agency with limited cap space, signing former Rangers forward Jesper Fast to a three-year deal with a $2 million AAV; check out our breakdown of the Fast signing here. The Canes have also made several depth signings to bolster their AHL squad in Chicago.

Between trades and continued free agency moves, there is still time for something big to happen during the offseason. That is especially true with the unclear nature of the 2021 season.
