  • The Bruins and Hurricanes are meeting in the playoffs for the sixth time in their franchise history. The Canes franchise (including Hartford) has only faced one other opponent more times in the postseason.
  • The Bruins have won four out of the past five series against the Hurricanes, most recently sweeping the Canes in the Eastern Conference Final last summer.
  • Sebastian Aho led the team against the Bruins last year in the Eastern Conference Final, putting up three points (1g, 2a) in the short four game series.
  • Jake Gardiner has played 20 out of his 29 total career NHL postseason games against Boston, all of which came during his tenure with the Maple Leafs. He’s picked up nine points (1g, 8a) in his postseason career against the Bruins.
  • James Reimer started all seven games of Toronto’s 2013 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Bruins. Despite losing the series, Reimer posted a very impressive .923 Save Percentage and a 2.87 Goals Against Average over the seven games.
  • Petr Mrazek and James Reimer combined stopped 94 out of 98 shots faced during the qualifying round against New York. They put up a 3-0 record with a .959 SV%, and a 1.33 GAA.
  • Tuukka rask and David Pastrnak were ruled “unfit to participate” in practice yesterday. Bruce Cassidy mentioned that he expects both to be in the lineup today.

Staff Picks

ICYMI, we previously made predictions for the play-in round, East and West Champions and Stanley Cup winner, along with how far the Hurricanes would go. We had a few big strikeouts, with all of us picking the Penguins over the Canadiens, and only Ford picking the Blackhawks to beat the Oilers.

Despite already having made some predictions for the rest of the playoffs (that some of us are about to contradict), a few of us wanted to make picks for round one. Here they are:
