  • Let’s start things off with a bang (i.e. something to hit you right in the feels).
  • Please take time to read this, if not today then make time over the next few days, because it’s beautiful, thought-provoking, relevant and timely. Jaccob and Kylie Slavin made a life-altering decision as white parents to adopt a Black daughter into their family, and it shifted their reality forever. [The Athletic $]
  • The brooms are out. Canes web editor Michael Smith and TV play-by-play Mike Maniscalco break down each game of the series. Plus, Michael details more on life inside the Toronto bubble, while Mike explains the phrase “Dear Gussy.” [CanesCast]
  • Rod Brind’Amour joined Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio (Aug. 5 episode, first interview) to discuss his goaltending decisions, Aho’s goal going viral, Brady Skjei, and what to do with all this extra time on their hands. [99.9 The Fan]
  • Justin Williams offers his takes on life in the bubble, people once again underestimating the Canes, and the Canes goalie tandem with Bryan Hayes, Jamie McLennan and Jeff O’Neill. [TSN Overdrive]

  • Reimer also called in with Tim Micallef and Sid Seixeiro to discuss moving on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the support he gets from his teammates, and the team presenting individual family video messages before the series began. [SportsNet]
  • Pigs have a reputation for being messy animals, but it really isn’t true. They’re actually quite tidy.
  • Washington Capitals forward Lars Eller is leaving the bubble in preparation for the birth of his second child. [WaPo]
  • Vancouver forward and former Hurricane Micheal Ferland has also left the bubble, deemed “unfit to play” after fighting Marcus Foligno in the Canucks qualifying round opener against the Minnesota Wild. [The Province]
  • “You’ve got to want the Pressure.” Edmonton forward James Neal, who has had his share of Stanley Cup near-misses, shares five musings from inside the bubble. [The Players’ Tribune]
  • And another NHL player, though this one chose to remain anonymous, chronicles the first week in the Edmonton bubble. [The Athletic $]
  • Finally, this last item requires instructions. First, click and watch the video of former Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice, speaking about Jets rookie forward Jansen Harkins, who scored in his first career playoff game Monday. Then click and read the entire tweet thread from Mike McKenzie that follows. Mike (son of Bob) signed with the Charlotte Checkers in August 2010 and was invited to Hurricanes training camp that fall. He was cut early in camp but his exit interview with Maurice taught him some valuable life lessons.
