The Carolina Hurricanes will finish up their two-game Florida swing Tuesday night in Amalie Arena, looking to rebound from their first loss of the season against the defending champs.

The Canes came out flat Saturday in Sunrise, falling to the Florida Panthers 5-2 in a game where Carolina was out of it in the early minutes. For the Lightning, Saturday night brought a 5-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

The Hurricanes are dealing with a bit of the injury bug right now, with Nino Niederreiter, Brett Pesce and Antti Raanta all sidelined.

Carolina came a game away from tying the NHL record for wins to start a season, but at the end of the day that doesn’t really matter. The 9-1-0 Canes are tied with Edmonton for the second best record in the league, and they’ll look to get back to those winning ways Tuesday in another really tough matchup.

Game Notes

  • Division foes a year ago, this is the first meeting between the Lightning and Canes in 2021-22. As division rivals in 2020-21, Carolina posted a 4-3-1 mark against Tampa, but of course fell in the playoffs to the eventual champs.
  • Teuvo Teravainen enters Tuesday night’s game two goals away from 100 career goals.
  • Alex Lyon got recalled by the Hurricanes Monday with Antti Raanta sidelined, though it’s unlikely he’ll see the ice Tuesday night.
  • Rod Brind’Amour is the third coach in NHL history to post a win streak of nine games or more as both a coach and a player with the same franchise. Lindy Ruff and Toe Blake were the others.
  • Andrei Svechnikov’s 15 points this season are the second most through 10 games in franchise history, behind only Eric Staal’s 18 in 2005-06.
