The Carolina Hurricanes look to rebound on their 5-4 lshootout loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Heading into tonight’s game the Hurricanes have a game in hand over the Tampa Bay Lightning but are now tied with them in the standings at 58 points. This game carries a big impact on the Central Division standings with the Canes still controlling their own destiny for first place.

This game also marks the second to last time that Carolina and Detroit will meet with the only remaining game coming on 4/29. The Canes have three more home games before their season-long, eight-game homestand comes to an end.

Game Notes:

  • With a win tonight, the Canes can clinch the season series. Carolina currently leads the series with a 3-2-1 record. Their 29-7-4 record and 58 points is their best record through the first 40 games of a season.
  • Tonight’s game will mark captain, Jordan Staal’s 1000th career NHL game, he is just the fifth player in franchise history to play their 1,000th game as a Whaler/Hurricane and the first to do so since Ray Whitney.
  • Vincent Trocheck has a point in seven consecutive games since returning from injury (and 13 overall), and he is being chased by Sebastian Aho who has a three-game point streak.
  • Martin Necas has now recorded multi-point games in back-to-back games, each with one goal and one assist. He has eight multi-point games this season and his .86 points per game ranks third behind only Aho and Trocheck.
